When a screen is not big enough

When a screen is just not big enough I resort to pulling out a roll of butcher paper, tape, and markers. It helps me to see patterns differently. I am a visual learner, and even though I have access to a great screen scape in the lab, sometime paper and a box of markers is really all you need.

Muppets do YouTube

Which Beaker’s Meep Meep Bach is charming in itself, I am most tickled by the two grumpy Muppets at the end obviously staring at YouTube (or another video sharing site) and playing the video again. Intermediality, folks!

Right after having posted this, I found another. Not having lived in the States in the last 8 years, I have lost touch with a bit of pop culture. Is this a new/common Muppet meme now?

Live stream from your phone

Really looking forward to trying out this service when I get my iphone (sooon, I hope). It seems like it has the potential of being really cool, but I hope they change their examples to something more creative then watching unsuspecting people walking by in the office. Even if they are not stating it outright, they are leaving users with the impression that this is to be used for ‘covert’ video rather than creative streaming. The implications could lead to more scaremongering about using video online. On the other hand, using this as a tool for citizen journalists could be powerful.

Another interesting (possibly) tool I found was Tube.tv. It gathers the top 10 most viewed videos from a variety of sites. For me, this is not particuarily interesting as it does not really work with the way I watch. I tend to follow links from videos and users I find interesting. What I did enjoy about this site is finding sites of which I was previously unfamiliar. It may, however, be useful as a technorati type of tool – just to put your finger on the pulse of the vlogosphere.

Very nice

Want to save this for teaching in the fall….
